How
does the Radio One Breakfast Show reach its audience?
The BBC
reaches its audience by sticking to its 3 main aims of educating, entertaining
and informing. By ‘putting the audience at the heart of everything’ they do,
the Radio One Breakfast Show produces content that the audience will tune into
on a daily basis.
The
Breakfast Show uses a variety of different platforms to show and promote their
content, platforms such as TV, radio and mobile apps. By having their content
on a multitude of platforms, more people can listen in different ways. If the
content were only available on one platform, it would limit the number of listeners
the show has as some people may not be able to access to it. In the mornings,
the breakfast show primarily plays music with about 5-6 songs in each half-hour
segment. Other content includes interaction with audience, games and general
chat. The Breakfast show does include News Reports but as the BBC wishes to
present themselves as politically unbiased the host, Greg James does not
include his own opinions on the stories on hand. By remaining unbiased, the
show keeps the audience attracted as there are no opinions that can be
offended.
The BBC’s remit is evident in the Breakfast Show because of a variety of factors. The News
segments successfully educate and inform audiences while remaining politically
unbiased because it is not Greg James presenting them. The use of games
throughout the morning show, show the entertainment provided for the audience
as they feel included and enjoy the game that is played that morning. The
songs, sometimes suggested by the audience, also help to entertain or they come
from the UK top 40 which is the most popular songs at the time. The general
chat heard on the show also provides entertainment
